Kids-in-Residence is a new, in-depth, after-school art program offered five times
a year to young artists ages 8-12. Each multi-week session will correspond to the
Lux Artist-in-Residence schedule, which for the remainder of the 2009/2010 Season,
features abstract painter Iva Gueorguieva, sculptor Robert Lobe and Berlin-based
artist Sati Zech whose works encompass elements of painting, sculpture and drawing.
Description for session during Iva Gueorguieva’s residency: Students will discover
the challenges and possibilities of abstract art while making a series of paintings
that express emotions and ideas rather than replicate real world objects. Students
will meet with resident artist Iva Gueorguieva each week during her residency and
watch as she creates a large, expressionistic painting. Art fundamentals of color
and line will be discussed, as well as the significance and history of abstraction
in Western art.
Space is limited to 12 children per session, and registration is on a first-come,
first-served basis. For more information or to reserve your spot for a session,
call 760-436-6611 or e-mail education@luxartinstitute.org at least three weeks prior
